COVID-19 Guidelines for Indian Agriculture

Post COVID-19 effect on Agriculture will be discussed at Agri Vision-2019

Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) (Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare) has released the guidelines for farmers and entities associated with farming sector during lock-down period in India due to the COVID-19.

The national agro-advisory for Indian farmers during lock-down period due to COVID-19 is as follows:

Agricultural and allied activities exempted from lock-down:

  • Veterinary hospitals
  • Agencies engaged in procurement of agriculture products, including MSP operations
  • ‘Mandis’ operated by the Agriculture Produce Market Committee or as notified by the State Government
  • Farming operations by farmers and farm workers in the field v. Custom hiring centres (CHC) related to farm machinery
  • Manufacturing and packaging units of Fertilizers, Pesticides and Seeds vii. Intra and inter-state movement of harvesting and sowing related machines like combined harvester and other agriculture/ horticulture implements.

These exemptions will facilitate unhindered activities related to agriculture and farming so as to ensure essential supplies and farmers do not face any difficulty during the lockdown. Necessary directions to the concerned Ministries/ Department of States and UTs have been issued for implementation during lockdown.
